100 Favorite Bible Verses: A Book Review

This is the most adorable little book with Bible verses! The photos of the book don't accurately show how cute the illustrations are. It's the size of a devotional. One page has some notes/commentary and the opposite page has a Bible verse written out with some floral illustrations around it. It's a lovely collection of verses; however, I wish that they would say what version of the Bible the verses came from (some are listed, but not all). It threw me off when some of the wording as just "off" enough than what I was used to reading - things like "longsuffering"!

The Curious Christian: A Book Review

The Curious Christian by Barnabas Piper

This book is about curiosity! It's a childish word, right? No! As we grow we don't have to lose the wonder over the world or people around us. Piper goes on to say that without curiosity, a Christian's life is incomplete, and then explores what this thing called "curiosity" is as well as how it affects relationships.

The book is a good little read - not too profoundly deep that it'll leave you scratching your head, but just enough depth and wonder to keep my attention as Piper explores different aspect of curiosity as it relates to life and spirituality. I walked away feeling like curiosity is undeniably important and wondering how I could add more opportunities for it in my life.

Here and Gone: A Book Review

Here and Gone by Haylen Beck

This book was fascinating to read. The story starts with a woman fleeing an abusive marriage with her children in tow. Pulled over by a local policeman, she is taken into custody and in the midst of the confusion, her children somehow disappear, with the policeman telling her that he never saw the children with her in the first place. Convinced she had her kids with her, this book then goes on to describe how she's made to feel crazy and the mystery of what happened to her children.

While it wasn't the very best suspense book I've ever read, it was still good and kept my attention. I give it four stars for how interestingly the author describes the characters and events in the book.

Get Out of That Pit: A Book Review

Get Out of That Pit by Beth Moore

This looks like a republished book by Beth Moore and not a freshly released book. When I looked at Amazon, it had a little blurb that said it was a new cover to celebrate the book's tenth anniversary.

I have never read a Beth Moore book, but have heard great things about her. In this book, Beth shares about her journey out of the pit that has been heart-rending. It's a message of hope, deliverance and glorious freedom in God. I can't stress enough that it's full of HOPE! She doesn't preach to the reader, but is in the trenches with the reader and offers so much truth in the midst of hard times.

I enjoyed this book. It was a bit of a heavier read, but good.

A Fierce Love: A Book Review

A Fierce Love by Shauna Shanks

The cover of this book is very eye catching! The synopsis just as catching. Shauna's husband broke the news that he had an affair and wanted a divorce. This book walks through her brave decision to fight for her marriage when society, and her husband, was telling her to let go of the marriage and walk away. Basing her heart around 1 Corinthians 13 and the ludicrous outline for love, she took God at His word and assumed the love chapter was really meant to be followed literally word by word, Shauna started to fall in love with Jesus - and her husband again.

There is nothing "fairy tale" about this book. It's not an easy book to read at parts because Shauna is quite real. She faces the hard parts of her story head-on and doesn't sugar coat anything for the reader. What she does do is heap on the hope, insight and then more hope for marriages, relationships and your relationship with God.
