Book Review: Maybe Its You

Maybe Its You by Candace Calvert // I really wanted to like this book. I read the description and excited to grab a good fiction book, had a lot of hope for it. The story mainly goes back and forth from the perspective of ER nurse Sloane Ferrell and hospital marketing guy Micah Prescott. She's changed her name and is in hiding, and he is trying to revamp the hospital's image by searching for the perfect hospital employee to star in his marketing campaign.

I liked that there was a suspense aspect to this book. I'm a big fan of suspense fiction. To be honest, I gave up on this book halfway through it. It was getting too hard for me to find any kind of believable (I know, I know, it's fiction), but to have all of the following narratives going on in the first 150 pages of the book was a bit too much for me. The book had: a woman changing her name to escape from some guys her ex owed money to from gambling, a guy who lost his brother in a car accident, sex trafficking, a father in prison for murdering her mother, flashbacks to child abuse and that was just in the first 150 pages. I understand troubled and complex characters, and have liked other novels by Candace Calvert, but this one felt like it was trying to fit too many story lines/issues into one book.
